    Playlist survey thing
Fun little music shuffle questionnaire. Put your music on shuffle and write whatever pops up in order for the questions.
I thought a few of mine worked perfectly! Though of course some are absurd. Some I couldn't find the music for either, so instead I just posted the lyrics.

    This busy season
This season brought many commissions: most paintings, some sculptures, One bookmaking project that was unexpected. I don't have a picture of the book yet, but I have been handmaking books for a while now and this one turned out very lovely. 2 signatures sewn into spine, about 42 cream colored pages in whole; a 60ply cover that inlaid the client's original turquoise celtic scrapbook cover [which allowed the new scrapbook to be enlarged]. It was very fun, and the client, Margaret, seemed thrilled. This scrapbook will catalog her granddaughter's study abroad to Scotland.

"Terri Duffield as the new Petty Pinup" Detail. Oil, 18x24" 2008

A fun project of the beautiful Terri, who is creating her husband a "pin ups of George Petty" salon display for his office. I didn't have time to properly photograph the piece for portfolio, so only two detail pics came out and not one of the whole thing haha. lower detail )
I hope she and her husband enjoy the portrait for years to come! It definitely already spans decades, haha, in recalling a different era.

Portrait of Erika's father on his sailboat. It will be displayed in a shadowbox along with other boating paraphernalia.

I have yet to photograph the 2 sculptures, but will soon. They were sweet little things. I also got a free 25lb of clay from work, so I have 45 pounds to go crazy with when I get the time!

The following pieces were all for a miniature show in Atlanta at Art Space International. They sold so quickly!! Piglet went as soon as I put him on the shelf, which I was very proud of since I want my hamster to be a star, haha. I did love making these pieces, and they were very precious to behold. The entire show was humongous in quantity and crowd, and exciting. I look forward to pressing more flowers when I can pick them this springtime.Little Flower Eyes 2.5"x3.5" Pressed Flower, pastel and graphite.

I finally feel like a real artist: I have an easel! Haha, I never had one before, and I've been leaning paintings against the tv and sitting on the floor painting, eating, singing, watching movies [Date With an Angel, Wall-e, and the A&E "Pride and Prejudice" currently] on loops all night. That's been my studio, but now I can sit comfortably! It's all because the Mersey W&N easel at work went on clearance for $33.99 down from like $109! And I got my discount on top of that, so I got this easel for like $24!!!
However, my website will be taking a break until redesigned and updated! I look forward to representing new pieces.
-one commission couples portrait still in the works
-one commission portrait in the style of Alphonse Mucha due February
-3 personal painting begun, 2 sculptures planned
    -Spring Solo show looks promising!

<-Brice and I lookin fancy for Christmas. For Papa, I played the piano and Brice and I sang together some of Pa's favorite songs. It was tons of fun! This was a delightful, laid back end to a very hectic month.

    The Wise Owl Takes Flight

"The Wise Owl Takes Flight" continues to develop in it's 4th night. I'm excited to finish the book details, glaze it, and begin a new one!
I've been awake for 30 hours bc I got obsessed with details and couldn't stop working, and then had to go to work haha. I love that feeling you get from being awake so long. I still feel motivated and as long as I keep snacking I will continue til it is complete!
As Sunnie suggested, I may glaze this all one color, perhaps in a beautiful nighttime darkness color. The next Squirrel theme will be all forest green. >:D

Lilly Oncology to announce awards soon!

In October they will announce the awards for
the 2008 Lilly Oncology Cancer Awareness art exhibition!
I've got my fingers crossed!! It'd be so wonderful
to attend the show in NYC.

"The most beautiful things come from being under pressure.
Struggles build new facets to your personality, creating dazzling intricacy.
This variety of experiences and raw humanity add rich depth and exuberance to who you are.
Like a star, like a diamond- we are forever reflecting our inner strength."

Relax bear, relax. Take your time, there is no rush.
Good morning, it's 2pm. Eat your pancakes, makes a good brunch.

Brice and I ate the endless shrimp at Red Lobster. I consumed at least 35 shrimp, finding my favorite flavor to be the garlic scampi. The rest of that evening was spent burping up shrimp ghosts.

Soon I'm going to start riding my bike to work, if I can find a safe route to take. Bicycles should never share the road with a car, I don't care what anyone says. Especially the long, winding, narrow road I normally take. All these rich people live along this road, but somehow they haven't put in a sidewalk? For some reason I thought rich people would demand a sidewalk.

Rocky Horror Remake by MTV, and Sleeping Beauty Remake Disgust
Can you imagine Rocky Horror Picture Show remade with new songs, geared toward modern culture, with younger "More Attractive" actors? That's what MTV wants.

Stop the Remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show

That would be worse than Keira Knightly in Pride & Prejudice. Obviously those actors were constantly struggling with their lines; saying the words without knowing what they meant. It was hard to watch.
And the new Sleeping Beauty, she's been turned into a spoiled, selfish brat with a horrible voice. Basically the antithesis of her original image, and the overall majesty of the original art.

    Sleeping Beauty - I Wonder [1959]

    Sleeping Beauty Preview from 2007

Please note how she walks like bigfoot through the forest.

    Sleeping Beauty - Opening [1959]

Sleeping Beauty - I've Got the Keys to the Kingdom [2007]

    warning: blasphemous

I stand in awe of the complete loss of grace, taste, class and imagination. And where is Prince Phillip? Apparently Disney's vision of Aurora's happily-ever-after life is that she's got the keys to a kingdom and throws parties just to her liking. Fuck true love and unselfishness, that won't sell.

    Piglet's Snack Break

Perhaps the most light-hearted thing I've ever painted. I have one more pet themed piece to finish and these will be going to an exhibition "Pet Fancy" that will raise money for a new no-kill animal shelter.

    John Risner Painting

In memory of John Risner, Commissioned by mother, Billie Risner.

The painting goes to Billie tomorrow, I pray it's what she had envisioned! I do think it looks like him, from the pictures I was given. I hope it also captures his demeanor.

After battling a headache, nausea and heartburn since midnight last night, I can finally go to sleep! For 4 hours anyway, then it's up again and over to school for the painting drop off and alumni show entry form submission. Art is worse than a 9-5 job, it's an every second of every day job!

    Art Update
Since starting my new job , I've had trouble getting things rolling on my own projects. I've had some good news the past couple of days though, including:

  • I sold my piece "Spilt" from the Art & Addiction show to a doctor from Johns Hopkins! She teaches a class for substance dependent pregnant women, and will be using a slide of the piece in her lectures. I'm very excited that it will continue to have importance and be able to connect with new viewers struggling to overcome addiction. The painting will also be featured in a textbook from Johns Hopkins, scheduled for release in August 2009.

  • My piece "Under Pressure" has been donated to the Lilly Oncology on Canvas touring exhibit! More news on this show come Fall.

  • I'm currently working on a commission oil painting in memory of Mrs. Risner's son John. This will be completed next week, and more paintings are to begin shortly after. I'm so honored to be involved in making a tribute to his life.

  • My own body of work is getting rolling too, with 3 new paintings scheduled to be completed in time for the Kennesaw State University Alumni Show. This show is very exciting because it is not juried, and you will get to see exactly what the artists want you to experience without any constraints on our messages. The opening reception will be held Thursday Aug 28th, 5-8:30pm in the Fine Arts Gallery @ Joe Mack Wilson building. I don't exactly know what I'm painting yet, but tonight is planning night and there's a good feel in the air.

Hope everyone is doing very well, and maybe I'll see some of you at the KSU show! :D

I've graduated, and I'm livin' the dream!
Hello! It's been forever since I've updated or even come by the site. I'm very excited to see lots of familiar faces on my friends list still active.

I haven't exactly been busy constantly, but what I have been, you couldn't call lazy altogether either. One can imagine my state of being as extreme procrastination, worry and confusion that somehow does not get in the way of my continuing to produce artwork. Art seems to just pop into existence from time to time in my room, and I've been lucky enough to get it accepted into several shows since graduation.

    Here is my recent news:
  • My piece entitled "Spilt" has been chosen for publication in Johns Hopkins University's book "Art & Addiction" which addresses addiction and recovery issues in association with the group "Innovators Combating Substance Abuse." This piece will also be exhibited in Rockville, San Juan, and Puerto Rico.

  • I am part of an online exhibition at: Upstream People Gallery. Enter the "10th Annual Judeo Christian Art Juried Exhibition" and look on the 2nd page for my name to check out three pieces: "Angel" - "Breaking Bread" - "Prayer Candles (a Funk+Li'Mo collaboration)"

  • My painting "Love of Mine" is on display through April in Astoria, Oregon. The show was the 2nd Annual International Juried Exhibition entitled "Au Naturel: The Nude in the 21st Century."

  • I'm trying to get things organized to upload on my official website: StephanieFunk.com, but until then I have lots of current stuff here: Facebook folder- "New Art".

I'm very excited and hopeful for future exhibitions, though it's getting harder as JOB vs FREETIME collide. I'm currently laying low from job to pursue art, though can't hold out for much longer, haha.

    Let's talk lightning bugs.
The firefly is capable of producing a "cold light", containing no ultra violet rays, due to a chemical reaction that occurs in specialized light-emitting organs.
This capability is called bioluminescence. It's primary function in adult fireflies is for finding a mate. Usually the ones flying around are males.

All fireflies glow as larvae. Firefly Larvae are predaceous and have been observed feeding mostly on earthworms, snails and slugs.
Observations of adults feeding on other prey items are practically non-existent. It's likely adults feed on plant nectar in order to sustain their energy requirements in the adult stage which can last several months or longer. There are more than 2000 species of firefly.

    Palm Reading website!
This thing is pretty sweet. It makes you create an account at the end to get the results, but just make up an email address so you don't get junkmail. The results were pretty interesting!

    Illustrator Project

Photo manipulation completed with Illustrator CS. I think it's made of 481 layers, all pen tool.
Now I can't stop looking at things in real life now and imagining where to plot the points and curve the lines. It's kinda crazy.
